Provost’s career spans over 40 years and it started when he secured a competitive scholarship for further and higher education on merit of his academic and work performance at the age of 15. From a young age, the Provost concurrently developed valuable skills in numerical/engineering analysis, software development, project management and leadership. This has empowered his belief that opportunities are realised through working hard and embracing knowledge.
Prior to a teaching career, the Provost held 12 years of professional experience in engineering/software development. In 1990 he commenced his academic career as Lecturer, working in the Higher Education (HE) sector, progressing via scholarly and academic developments in the subject area of engineering mathematics through the ranks towards management, leadership and academic quality assurance via Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer & Deputy Dean/Director. He has also worked extensively in collaborative partnerships and transnational education.
In October 2011, the Provost was appointed to his current role. He also held a position between 2008 and 2011 as Principal and Academic Director for the University of Bolton’s campus in Ras al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, where he spent 3 years setting up, establishing and operating a successful campus serving both further and higher education and developing an exceptional relationship with His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. Between 2014 and 2016, he completed a secondment as Principal and CEO of a school in the UK where he led in managing, curriculum planning, teaching and learning and full school/college oversight for secondary and further education at the school.
The Provost has a passion for community cohesion and works tirelessly in promoting, integration and prosperity of all communities through education. He is actively involved in the community particularly through the Bolton Council of Mosques, Interfaith and other community groups and has considerable influence through helping the communities. Recently he was appointed as board member for SAMA Salt Production LLC (Abu Dhabi government company). His expertise in transnational education and leadership is deep as it is wide and is the institutional lead for the University of Bolton in establishing a medical school.
Indeed, the Provost is well placed having worked internationally with a good knowledge of the education, community and practice immersed education. He has mentored the Principal of an Ofsted “outstanding” academy trust and has served as trustee and chair of governor for schools and academies and through government’s public appointment he currently is a panellist, for the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) which investigates cases of misconduct by Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) members.
